I know its slower but I always used Chiltern and never had to stand. Also much cheaper. Haven't been to London for 7 years though. Free parking for rail passengers at Solihull or Dorridge as well.

The other benefit of the alternatives to HS2 is that crowding will be eased almost immediately. HS2 - which may prove of limited help anyway - will not be ready for over a decade, maybe two.

a Season ticket on HS1 for the 58 miles from Ashford is 6k a year so safe to say
#HS2 will be 12k in todays money from Brum. About half the median UK wage. That's why the average user is predicted to earn high income. Of course for MPs it would be free. For the few not the many.
