This is not true, and we are sorry if our statement led you to this conclusion. We’ve had discussions with federal officials to see if there is a way we can help, but no one is “banning” us from anything, and if there is a role for the Red Cross to play, we will.

Hey, Mike. We agree that blood donation eligibility shouldn’t be determined by sexual orientation, and we're working to achieve this goal. As an interim step, we’re asking the FDA to consider reducing its deferral time. Learn more about our stance:

Hi Jennifer, This is untrue. We're testing all blood product donations for COVID-19 antibodies. Plasma from donations that meet FDA criteria for convalescent plasma may be used to treat immunocompromised patients with COVID-19. (1/3)

This image isn’t real. We agree blood donor eligibility shouldn’t be determined by sexual orientation and are working w/ the FDA, LGBTQ+ centers & partners on a study that could potentially lead to changes to donor eligibility for gay/bi men. Learn more:

At each blood drive, our employees follow safety protocols like: ✔️ Wearing gloves ✔️ Wiping down donor-touched areas after every collection ✔️ Using sterile collection sets for every donation ✔️ Preparing the arm for donation w/ aseptic scrub #coronavirus #COVID19 (7)
