Haha! Every job up until that was supporting me through education and working towards a position as a game designer! I was lucky enough to know what I wanted at an early age. I took pride in my customer service job, but everything else felt like a temporary stepping stone.

I also was incredibly lucky to get my first job. It just so happened my dissertation around Augmented Reality in games (2008), matched a project Supermassive were working on. A really lucky bit of niche knowledge at the right time!

There's a few of us lucky shits. The real game Devs get in with hard work, I have massive respect for those folks. With tools like Unreal, Unity and Gamemaker, it's never been easier to start making games. I always tell grads, examples of work beats qualifications e'ryday!

Yes to this! Some are lucky like you say, but there's a huge amount of those that put in the work and continuously push to get to where they are now.
