This is framed as the positive alternative to TERFs, but peep "examining the various reasons and pressures that led us to transition or trans-identify" Seriously why can't these people just say "I made a choice that I now think is wrong for me"? Are they allergic to autonomy?https://twitter.com/reclaimingtrans/status/1371967952434630657 …

This is the group description for NoGoingBack, the online support group for people who'd stopped their transition/detransitioned that I used to participate in when I was younger. It was started in 2005 but was nearly dead by 2013, the last time I checked it out. pic.twitter.com/SN3IbOeOEh

That stuff rubs me the wrong way too but to give some context, when that space was created even a lot of trans people thought there was pressure to transition or that transmasculine transition was a trend. I came across that kind of thinking all the time in queer/trans spaces.

A lot more trans and queer people rightly question that kind of thinking now. In practice, most of the people in that group were genderqueer and nonbinary people who found that a binary transition didn't work for them and just wanted to talk about that/find community.

Generally, people were not examining their motives for transitioning like they did in later detrans groups. I don't think NoGoingBack was perfect by any means but it wasn't anywhere near as terfy or toxic as later detrans groups.

Thanks for the context! I appreciate that. I definitely think medical gatekeeping / pushing people into one-size-fits-all medical transitions is a factor and it makes sense to discuss that. I'm just touchy obvs.

It's cool. I totally get why you'd be touchy about it given your experiences with your ex-friend. I also don't mind when people are critical of that kind of thinking because it's something I'm still unlearning/healing from. Sometimes it helps when other people point it out.
