I thought I was helping detrans women by working with transphobic feminists. Now I think that "alliance" is harmful and parasitic. I think there would be a lot more practical resources for detrans people if we had chosen to work with trans people instead.
Although I no longer consider myself detrans, I know the kinds of struggles detrans people face. I am willing to work with detrans people to create better resources. Detrans and trans people ought to be natural allies. Together we can create a society where we all thrive.
Ky, do you think that, because trans healthcare is so tricky to get, that people who may be unsure commit to transitioning because it was so difficult to get to that point?
Your article also made me wonder how many detrans people there are in the GC community who now essentially back in the closet? Forced into it by the GC's making them declare their detransness. Very sad :(
