Robert Stoller, transphobic psychoanalyst, thought transmasculinity was caused by an afab child developing too close of a relationship with their father, while developing a distant relationship with their mother. He summed it up as "Too much father, not enough mother".

I think this is where a lot of my dad's hang ups over my identity come from, as a single dad he was constantly told that he'd mess me up or abuse me because "daughters need mothers". He was put through so much shit. I think he blames himself for me wanting to be more male.
