This is kinda interesting because on the one hand, queer identified heterosexuals are incredibly boring and not particularly relevant to queer liberation, and on the other hand queer liberation has as its goal the disruption of the status quo where anyone will have cause to...https://twitter.com/ClaireShrugged/status/1366373626853920768 …

I bought a queer anthology. The first essay is by a straight woman, which is in itself problematic. Then, 13 pages in: “I’m finally accepting the notion that there can be straight queers and that it’s more than okay for me to define myself as one.” And I think I’m done here. 🤦🏾‍♀️ pic.twitter.com/V3F7KvCMbg

...care whether a heterosexual identifies as queer. The characterisation of queer community and liberation struggle as a colonisation of nicely defined clearly divided sexual constituencies by straight people is bullshit for various reasons, most of them bad faith reading.

The most boring part of this (like the most boring part of arguments over communities of gender identity) is the fixation with community as a matter of personal identity exploration rather than as a living interrelational dynamic amongst a group of people.

What a lot of this comes back to is a broader conflict between people who define community by solidarity Vs people who define community by individual traits. And the trait based community idea is by far the more boring and worthless when it comes to queer revolution.

Having now experienced both communities organized around solidarity and communities organized around (supposedly) shared traits, I'll go with the ones based on solidarity. While they have their problems, I found far more freedom and less focus on purity/identity policing.

The community organized around solidarity was the radical queer/trans community. The ones organized around shared traits were the detrans women's and radical lesbian feminist community. Both had problems but the later ended up being more controlling/restrictive than the former.

Yeah, I think it's hard to maintain focus as a messy non gate keeping community in lots of ways (and it's important to check people when they're overstepping their experience from time to time), but I don't see how to have community that's not first a commitment to each other.
