A more rational and consistent TERF approach to trans men would be to see us as cunning tricksters who manage to escape victimhood. This is, in fact, how they see historical trans men- as extraordinary women who pulled off this really cool feat of escaping gender roles.https://twitter.com/e_urq/status/1364757806260375552 …

Unfortunately, seeing trans men as clever tricksy sexism-escape artists comes with an obvious downside: It leads inexorably to the question: Why shouldn't other women then follow us.

Many of the earlier TERF arguments against trans men/transmascs were that we're sell-outs supposedly taking the easy way out by joining patriarchy instead of fighting it. They granted us at least some agency but accused us of making bad choices, betraying women, etc.

Over time, they've increasingly framed us as victims instead. It's interesting to see how transphobic narratives about transmasc people have shifted and gotten more sexist and conservative over the years. And how they started w/ TERFs and have now been taken up by conservatives.
