This makes it different from many other kinds of conversion practices, especially the more religious motivated ones that are anti-LGBT across the board. But there's a long history of anti-trans medical professionals preferring homosexuality over transsexuality.

Counter to what the "transition is new gay conversion therapy" crowd likes to argue, historically in most cases doctors would prevent anyone they saw as a self-hating gay person from transitioning. They'd use any excuse to stop people from transitioning.

With Zucker, he didn't think it was possible to prevent homosexuality in most cases but he did think you could stop someone from becoming trans. He saw kids growing up to be gay (and as gender conforming as possible) as a better outcome than growing up to be trans.

Some anti-trans people are trying to act like they're more progressive than they are and just trying to "save gay kids" and "defend LGB rights" but this is just classic transphobia. Pressuring trans people into being cis gay people has a long history.

It's important to make this history more widely known and help people understand what specific conversion therapies/practices are used against trans people, the thinking behind them, etc. They're not as well documented or understood as anti-gay conversion practices.

Anti-trans conversion practices play an important role in attempts to suppress and control trans people. We need to understand them so we can better resist them and offer support to those who've been subjected to them.
