I used the term "conversion therapy" to describe my experience of detransitioning because it's a term most people will recognize, even though it's not the best fit. I never saw a therapist or other mental health professional, I participated in support groups for detrans women.

What I did would count as a "gender identity change effort" and "conversion practices" is a better fit than "conversion therapy" but most people are unfamiliar with those terms. The language is still evolving in order to better name these harmful beliefs and practices.

That's one reason I came up with "ideologically motivated detransition". My experience was similar to "conversion therapy" and ex-gay ministries in some ways but different in others. My old community and it's specific theories and practices is a relatively new development.

Language describing "conversion therapy", SOGIECE and related practices will continue to develop as activists who oppose them work to understand them better and more survivors speak out. I'm doing what I can help more people resist SOGIECE, in whatever form they take.
