Not all the needs being met are necessarily positve. Getting permission to act out can be a big draw for some. These spaces can also offer people a strong sense of identity. Lot of people go into lesbian feminism/separatism for that reason.
It's complicated and there's no one cause. Of course living in a society that already very transphobic plays a role but there's often a lot of group dynamics and interpersonal stuff going on too. Just think that's something people should consider when addressing this stuff.
