Fwiw, what I'm doing posting all these sexology links critically isn't so much as attempt to promote an interest in sexology but to look at the ways it failed the people it pathologised, frequently tortured, and documented.

We live with the legacy of that pathologisation. The sexologist's power over LGBTQIA+ people was the power of naming and defining our boundaries, drawing lines around us frequently against our permission and making recommendations around our control and management.

Reading books and articles by medical professionals writing about trans people helped me see how oppressed we were by the medical establishment, rather than creations of it. It's so clear that they don't want us to exist or at least wanted to normalize us as much as possible.

This kind of thing is one of the reasons I want to get together at least a comprehensive overview of all the studies for and against conversion therapy and pull together the core ideology of it and how it hurt people in a clear way that goes beyond "it doesn't help people".

Because it's so much more than just that it didn't help, or that it gave people false hope or harmed people who were lobotomised or shocked or whatever.
