Also, I find it interesting that when people talk about cults, they never seem to mention how there's debate among experts about how to understand them. People coming from psychology backgrounds tend to see them differently from those coming out of sociology or religious studies.
Absolutely, and also to an extent how much cults are often defined by grifts but also cult researchers are themselves often following the same pattern of grifting. There's a lot about it that I find fascinating but it leaves me really troubled about applying it as a label.
