I know I make a point of speaking about the harms of the detrans community I left but I'd rather that people's take away is that "we need to create more resources for people" rather than "terfs are an evil cult". People turn to ideology to solve real problems.

One must be very careful though -- because backing down/ being more reasonable is a move that leaves one vulnerable. I'd argue that one needs to meet force with force, and hold the line, before de-escalation can happen without considerable risk.

I think framing carefully avoiding certain sorts of harmful rhetoric as de-escalation in some sort of way as to suggest it's a retreat misses the point of doing less harm.

I’ve probably fallen into this trap myself sometimes. It’s one of those things where “the medium is the message” and Twitter technically dictates the terms of the narrative. Sound bites don’t engender nuance.
