Unfortunately I don't think ignoring gender crits will make them go away. And some gender crits are parents of trans youth. Their kids can't just block and ignore them. Gender crits are recruiting vulnerable people, including some trans people.https://twitter.com/sally_hines/status/1348386609616597002 …

I'm all for strategic engagement with gender crits. A lot of the time fighting with them is pointless or helps their cause. But there needs to be counter-recruitment efforts, de-radicalization, ways of supporting and protecting the people they attack, etc.

I've seen attempts to just "block terfs" backfire and lead to recruitment. Not hearing counterarguments to gender crit propaganda can make people more vulnerable to it. I saw this happen so many times on social media sites like tumblr.

I get not wanting to waste time and energy on arguing with transphobes. But I worry that too much disengagement can be just as harmful and counterproductive as too much of the wrong kind of engagement.

What would be your suggestion on how to: 1. Stop people from being recruited? 2. De-radicalised those within the echo-chambers?

That's something I'm still trying to figure out. It can be really hard to get people out once they're really invested, so counter-recruitment would probably be more effective overall.

Do you think that counteracting their narratives would help. I've noticed a lot of the ways they recruit are by pushing the most extreme ideas they can paint us with and presenting themselves as the logical option. I don't think we cant stop recruitment of cishet white women

but by supporting young GNC people, lesbians, and closeted trans mascs, do you think we could take a chunk out of their base.

Developing counternarratives could help. I think it would also be good to figure out what the emotional draw of these ideologies are and figure out other, healthier ways to get those needs met. Not just criticize but provide alternatives.

I think a key problem we have in the U.K. is that we don’t have a clear inclusive feminism movement. Sure, there’s feminism, but not a strong group to join. The ‘gender critical’ fake feminism is the only visible option.
