Telemedicine, eConsults, etc make tons of sense in ID, and can be GREAT for patient care--but it has to be supported, which is a big challenge in a system still dominated by fee-for-service payments. Latest post:

If you give the lab a urine from an asymptomatic patient, chances are they'll culture it If they culture it, they might grow bacteria If they grow bacteria, you may think "It's a UTI!" If you think it's a UTI, odds are you'll treat with antibiotics etc.

Last time OSU was at UNC (06), Buckeye players said the Smith Center was as loud as “standing behind a jet engine.” I’ve got two tickets for someone who can bring that same energy to today’s top 10 showdown. RT and follow to be eligible.

Nice to see this consensus statement! Only element missing from the de-esc definition is a time component. It’s not really de-esc if you wait until day 7 to make a move IMO.

Improving the way we prescribe antibiotics helps keep our patients healthy now, helps fight antibiotic resistance, and ensures that these life-saving drugs will be available for future generations.

Ever wonder if we have no idea how to prescribe antibiotics to reduce antibiotic resistance? Ever wish the NIH funded infection control and antimicrobial resistance research?
