It doesn’t bother me nor my entire #NativeAmerican family. There’s a lot that is worth fighting for regarding native discrimination...healthcare, jobs, land. If it bothers some, they entitled to feel that way but Just as many of us don’t care and love football.

This response is based on how you *feel* about mascots, but research on Native students’ academic performance and mental health shows many are negatively impacted by Native mascots. It’s harmful—possibly even for you and young ppl in your family—and that isn’t up for debate.

I turned on a game with Kansas City a couple weeks ago after not watching all year... I was horrified at the sea of white people with face paint doing the thing and chanting. There is no debate to be had... It's nothing less than disgusting that you even have to explain it.

What sealed the deal for me is social science research shows native themed sports teams cause psychological harm to native children. And if we can't change the name of a sports team and remove mascots to help kids, what kind of society are we?https://www.apa.org/pi/oema/resources/indian-mascots …

It's intentional. It's a form of ritual symbolism they use to identify the outsider. When necessary the outsider having already been identified as an outsider can be quickly demonized and attacked.

I’m native. Oglala Lakota, I find it offensive. It would be nice if it stopped. Also it’s like a gauge, as soon as we see this stuff diminish, we know the people are truly waking up. What’s more enraging is the Christian church using our sacred symbols on their stained class.
