This is a good thing
-
I'm sorry, I thought this was AMERICA
-
My point is the government should have no say in individuals and their food purchase decisions. If the people want to eat and drink themselves to waste, so be it
-
The government should have no say in safety regulations either then right? Seat belts are optional? Speed limits are a choice?
-
How is my sugar consumption a negative externality to you? And tbh, I don't think their should be safety regulations forcing me to was seat belts. Me not wearing a seatbelt doesn't harm you
-
70% tax on a drink containing sugar and wearing a seatbelt/posting speed limits to prevent death are about as bad of a false equivalence as you can get.
-
You're right. A sugar tax will actually save hundreds of thousands more lives than seat belts will.
-
What twisted logic. The economic cost of this kind of a tax is incredibly high. Let's tax gasoline at 70% - Nobody will be able to drive, so nobody will be killed in traffic accidents. Brilliant!

Fantastic news for the youth of Seattle! Less obesity, diabetes, coronary disease - and more - for them!!! Kudos. Hope this spreads.
-
Government control of our lives is tyranny. Wake up. Freedom is dying in Seattle.
-
The people will just go to a neighboring City and buy their soft drinks genius
-
What is it that people don't Get? Yes people will go to other places to buy but will the poor be able to do That? Do we really want a government that tells us what we can drink? I'd rather run my own life, thank you. Keep the government out of our decisions. Were a free people!!
-
Traffic lights are tyranny!
-
I've been waiting for someone to bring up traffic lights or seat belts or whatever. Sorry, doesn't compute. Driving is a privilege shared with others. Soda is private choice that the gvt has zero right to regulate. It's simply liberal overreach BS intruding in our lives.
-
Same was said about seat belts, etc. Baseline shift. Anyway rampant diabetes affects everyone’s healthcare costs similar to how tobacco use did. We taxed the shit outta that too. There was outrage, then we moved on. If you want to be totally “free” move to Antarctica.
-
Sugar does not cause diabetes. Seat belts are for driving not sitting in your home drinking a coke. If you believe the gvt should control your life, great. But it's a slippery slope to have the idiot lawyers control our lives. Give me freedom over socialist oppression.
