The civil rights movement directly challenged white supremacy, and no one is calling that an example of mistaken strategy. The gay rights movement insisted that out and proud was the only way to survive. Both direct challenges to the status quo that were highly successful.
I’ll bet anyone $100 that, when the numbers come out, starting in February & into March of 2018, gun manufacturers saw a significant sales increase, & the NRA had a significant revenue increase. Threatening gun rights puts more guns on the streets & more money in the NRA’s lobby

Fighting white supremacy didn’t create more white supremacists. Being openly gay didn’t cause more people to hate gays. Those are bad analogies.

Common thread; the NRA supported black ownership of firearms when whites tried to take them away. They also offer training to the gay community because gays are targeted by bigots.
