  4. Peek into my office space (I have to make it homey or I don’t want to be there). I made a motivational wall, the blue box is where I keep post it notes with little accomplishments to myself, and a photo from one of my highlights of getting a motivational signature from “Bucky”

  8. Lastly, we have "Lilliputian Star", which was proposed by Harlow Shapley in 1958. This title was misleading as 'brown dwarfs' are not stars. Also, try saying "Lilliputian star" fast three times , it just doesn't roll of the tongue like 'brown dwarfs' does...

  9. 'Infrared dwarf' was another another name proposed, but this would have implied that 'brown dwarfs' can only be observed in the infrared, when in fact there are features of brown dwarfs in the optical wavelength range

  10. 'Black dwarfs' was a term once used by Dr. Shiv S. Kumar who had early theoretical predictions of brown dwarfs in the early 1960s. However, 'black dwarfs' are theoretical end products of white dwarfs so this name was not used.

  11. Although 'Struggle Bus Star' took the prize 🏆, Infrared dwarf, Black dwarf, and Lilliputian star were all once considered/used as names for 'brown dwarfs'.

  12. Which one sounds like a good alternate name for brown dwarfs?

  13. Dr. Jill Tarter coined the term 'brown dwarf' in her Ph.D. thesis in 1975, but the FIRST brown dwarf, Gliese 229B was not discovered until 1995!

  14. Brown dwarfs are too massive to be considered planets (greater than 13 Jupiter masses), but they are not massive enough to be considered stars (greater than 75 Jupiter masses). Brown dwarfs cannot fuse Hydrogen------> Helium like our Sun does.

  15. O Brown Dwarf, Brown Dwarf, wherefore art thou Brown Dwarf? Brown dwarfs are these really cool and interesting objects, often nicknamed "Failed Stars".
