Please enjoy an extremely realistic moment of me needing a little sit down and quietly ignoring the festivities.

Happy new year! Saw it in in style with , , , , , , and various animals in party hats.

This is one of the things I'm most pleased with this year: in spite of everything, we made music!

Very quick WIP glimpse of the game I'm working on this week. It's a project that I started a couple of years ago. I'm using edited/defaced Victorian stop motion photographs as sprites.

RIP Flash, even nested MovieClips with AS2 code on the timeline.

Anyway, while I'm feeling nostalgic, here's a (very short) Flash game of mine that I still like. I made it in an hour, using Flixel.

(I mean I have always made music, and I still make games, but the balance has shifted.)

I often wonder if the reason I'm more drawn to making music than games these days is that music is easier to share with people now - reminds me of the immediacy/accessibility of making and sharing Flash things.

(Also there was a brief, fun period where nobody was learning ActionScript but it wasn't totally obsolete yet and you could make $$$ as a freelancer maintaining creaky old codebases.)

"Flash games" was such a broad medium - everything from polished, big-budget productions to scrappy, throwaway ideas, and all so immediately accessible. I loved that.

It let me work quickly and independently with only a little starting knowledge, let me share my work widely, taught me the basics of "grown up" programming, and got me interested in learning more.

Sad to see the real, final end of Flash Player coming up fast! As with a lot of creative/tech people of a certain age, Flash was super important to my career.

Also I didn't get a Chocolate Orange this year.

Experimenting with doing something other than eating Chocolate Oranges and playing Cities: Skylines during this liminal, nothing-y week. and I are working on the next EP, and I'm making progress with a game that I started work on a couple of years ago.

Late to the party/unoriginal tweet: I really like the BBC adaptation of His Dark Materials, especially the parts where there's a red panda to look at.
