Spec authors: words mean things; they're not pixie dust to sprinkle on algorithms. If you say "in parallel", you have certain obligations.

Yeah, that's pretty annoying too. Or APIs that _are_ threadsafe, but only because they take a giant lock and serialize everything.

Is this something frequent? Only exemple I know is libwayland, but that's kind of its job.

There are certainly OS font APIs that do that sort of thing. Makes using font metrics on multiple threads at a time a huge pain.
