the fact that CSS doesn't have a "all siblings" or even just "previous siblings" selectors is a continual annoyance. So basic.

@abritinthebay Any suggestion for the syntax? I'd be okay with adding the feature

@awfulben I'd say it should crib the ~= syntax from the attr selector as it uses Tilde already and the semantics are similar. So P ~= P

@abritinthebay @tabatkins is the editor of the new Selector spec. This problem may have been discussed before.

@awfulben @tabatkins I'm pretty sure it has. I know there is a resistance to doing backward lookups (for performance I guess).

@abritinthebay In the last spec, we do backward lookup for :nth-last-child(an+b of selector). It already works in WebKit. @tabatkins

@awfulben Hmm great point. Yeah, then I don't really see a good argument against a full siblings selector... (just inertia) @tabatkins

@abritinthebay @awfulben Yeah, per previous talk with @bz_moz , it's really just the "ancestor" selector that's too slow. Parent/sib is ok.

@tabatkins @abritinthebay @awfulben More precisely, ancestor and parent are the thing that are obvious slower than ~.

@bz_moz @tabatkins right, makes total sense. Any chance for the "all siblings" selector then? It enables a ton of for CSS only tricks..
