      @bz_moz @rwaldron Wait, is this *changing*?! That would break like the entire web... Maybe we should get specific (& take this off Twitter).

      @bz_moz @rwaldron Yeah, we can continue next week. I have an inviolable moral directive not to discuss windows or prototypes this week.

      @littlecalculist @bz_moz Current behaviour does exactly what is expected in all browsers mentioned. (tested with "alert" and "fakeAlert")

      @bz_moz @rwaldron I think he means it doesn't clobber the variable with undefined, IOW as expected by the programmer using that idiom.

      @littlecalculist @rwaldron Sure it does. Try |var alert = window.alert; document.write(alert)|: I get "undefined" in Firefox.

      @bz_moz @rwaldron Don't have a console in front of me. What does var alert; document.write(alert); do?

      @littlecalculist @rwaldron undefined in Gecko, "function alert() { [native code] }" in WebKit and Opera, over here.

          @bz_moz @rwaldron I am shocked. I had it in my head that this was a common way to test for global variables.

          @littlecalculist @bz_moz right, that approach is no good. I've been auto-substituting code in my head for this entire conversation (no var)

          @bz_moz Since when? That is a bad bug. JS shell > var parseInt; > parseInt function parseInt() {[native code]} @littlecalculist @rwaldron

          @BrendanEich @bz_moz @rwaldron Not a bug. Works for parseInt b/c it's an own property. Fails for alert b/c it's on Window.prototype.

          @bz_moz @littlecalculist Ah, I see what you're saying now... I was doing "window.alert = window.alert || window.fakeAlert". (not var)
