And, okay, Apple has money, but they clearly don't believe there's a business case to increase investment in Safari. Googlers endlessly shouting "well you would be able to respond to us better if you increase resources" doesn't help make that case.

At this point, when so many standards groups are so dominated by Googlers and when they so often shout over everyone else, it may be the rational business decision is to _withdraw_ from standards. What effect on their business is contributing to the W3C having?

By and large, Google is shipping what they want regardless of feedback from other vendors. Why bother even investing time in responding to what Google is proposing when your feedback will be ignored anyway?

I think in some cases (primarily Fugu?) it's regardless of feedback from Mozilla and Safari, who aren't the only other vendors. I'd like to find a governance structure that ensures we pay attention to at least the vendors who think the web needs to keep improving.

I think there are _very_ significant disagreements here on what changes constitute "improvement".

And on the up-thread comment, "devote more people to web standards" is not the same thing as "devote better people to web standards". A _ton_ of our web standards time is cleaning up Google-created messes, and this keeps coming up again and again. Pretty tired of it, honestly.

Now maybe it's just because Google is behind a larger share of proposals and problems occur with similar frequency across all proposals. But that hasn't been my experience, honestly; there's a lot more internal filter going on at Apple and Mozilla from what I can see.

Or put another way, Google keeps outsourcing training its people in how to write standards to other companies. Which is convenient for Google, but not great behavior.

@RickByers We do really need to figure out how to get at least an internal code review done on specifications before Boris has to see them. And some way to mark that the review is done.
