That is a good question. The other question is which parts of the proposal are needed just to address the search engine use case, and how much of the complexity should be eager vs "add it when we discover we really need it". For admittedly varying values of "we"....

I think the search engine use case is reasonable (though I’m somewhat unsure if it would be annoying; at least there needs to be UI to get rid of the highlight after arriving at the page, much like find in page UI can be dismissed). I also find the discontinuous case odd.

We currently dismiss the highlight on first click/tap, though I think this kind of thing can/should be UA specific
