I'm no second amendment advocate, but it does seem backwards that one can be forced into military service at 18 but not allowed to legally buy a firearm until 21...

The answer is lack of parenting. If you spank your kids ass when done wrong they will figure out right front wrong. But no we want to blame guns. Well guns has to have an operator just like a vehicle needs a drunk to kill.

No, but they did carry the exact same weapons that their contemporary military had. Modern American citizens do not have that same ability.
