Of course, but the messaging about it being a pursuit of "equality" and social justice is cynical and absurd.
We shouldn’t pretend being fat is healthy but studies have shown terrible discrimination against fat people (including by medical professionals) exists & causes harm. To your point though, the body positivity movement is often way too extreme for my liking as well.
What would you expect, the corporations to say ‘Hey fat fucks, buy our clothes’? No, they want their customers to feel good about buying their crap. That’s free markets.
You can't have it both ways: is it "cynical", or is it "woke"? Or, is it just advertising in a way that is expected to be profitable by appropriating (rather than creating) the surrounding culture?
Obese people are often given unequal treatment. Many of them are obese through no fault of their own. Parents, genetics, etc.
Developed countries outside of the anglosphere would provide evidence to the contrary. Obesity is a national crisis in the US and should not be normalised.
