Is the idea of "being woke" borne of our Hebrew & Platonic roots, as depicted in the book of Genesis & in Plato's Cave? Is it a product of and a nod to the Enlightenment? If so, is it futile to repeat ad nauseam that we need to fight it by a "return to Enlightenment values"?

Isn't the very notion of "critical consciousness" borne out of the Gnostic tradition and in fact not Marxist in origin at all but ultimately Neoplatonic? I think the book 'Dominion' discusses this.
