Public K-12 schools should be careful in how they teach "current events," which can be heavily politicized. But if a high school wants to teach something like discrimination and disparities, it should provide the best work from multiple perspectives, then encourage open debate.
As a caveat, however, we should make sure students have basic literacy skills before spending time on "current events." There are many schools that have *literacy rates under 50%* that have jumped on the "antiracism" bandwagon—which is a dereliction of duty.
