Well well well, if it's isn't Kimberlé Crenshaw, founder of critical race theory, telling us that the term "critical race theory" can be "used as interchangeably for race scholarship as Kleenex is used for tissue"—exactly as I've been saying all along. 👍 http://www2.law.columbia.edu/fagan/courses/law_socialscience/documents/Spring_2006/Class%202-Origins%20of%20Social%20Science%20Law/Crenshaw_Foot%20in%20the%20Closing%20Door.pdf …pic.twitter.com/GP7mLZAm9x

She’s so obviously making a *descriptive* claim about how the term “Critical Race Theory” is being used haphazardly. But you’ve taken this and inserted “can be” between parts of the relevant excerpt to make it look like she’s making a *prescriptive* claim. You aren’t serious.

This isn’t at all an obvious reading of that sentence. The entire section is about the genesis of CRT and how it was a leftist-based movement to develop identity politics, and critique liberalism, colorblindness, meritocracy, equality. Exactly what its critics say.pic.twitter.com/Ses5aTBj6O

Right, and she's not talking about people *misusing* the term, she's talking about how the term has become very influential and annexed other fields. The tone suggests that she's surprised, even slightly boasting, at how influential the term has become in left-wing race theory.

That’s an implausible reading given the relevant context (couple pages before and especially those after the excerpt). Beyond that, you inserted “can be” as though she’s claiming CRT *can be* used so widely, when all she’s doing is describing how that has happened.pic.twitter.com/DNEMAE7I7O

Yes, I’m well aware she wants to jump back and forth with the lunatic fringe of the movement, or deny that her ideas directly inspire those other ideas in an unavoidable way. That is what identity politics does. But she doesn’t get it. None of the theorists do.
