Sorry but #Eng played 2 minutes of the match and forgot to play the other 88. Typical England!
Grace in victory and a real contest (would have a bit dull if one completely dominated, eh?). Grazie.
England's passiveness cost them the game. They just sat deep and gave Italy all the space they wanted with no urgency in pressing while Italy were the opposite, swarming the opposition in numbers very high up the pitch when they lost possession and quickly regaining the ball.
11 generations, two wars, and 380+ years makes it hard to get excited about rooting for the home country. #sowhateurocup
England blew it after a dream start. They started nursing a lead too early and missed their chances at a 2nd when they had Italy reeling. Once Italy found their footing, the equalizer was inevitable. England did well to get to pens after that.
II totally agree. But can someone explain to me why so many English players removed their medal necklaces?
Southgate was out-strategized by Mancini. Played scared and it cost him. There was no way England would win by nursing a single goal. Once they got the first goal they needed to put pedal to the metal and go for #2.
The Italians had 70% possession, and most of the game was played in England’s half, The Italians out played the English side. It wasn’t a great game but the best team won on the day.
even if England won by chance, everybody saw that Italy had better technique and coordination. And endless energy.
