The question for the "centrists": My partner @kimmiehermann has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit regarding this very book, but it will take years to adjudicate. In the meantime, you oppose legislative action to prohibit the state from teaching children they are race-devils?https://twitter.com/realchrisrufo/status/1413175539129487360 …

SCOOP: At least 25 public school districts in 12 states are now teaching "Not My Idea," a book that claims "whiteness" is the devil, luring children with the promise of "stolen land [and] stolen riches." Critical race theory is driving public education—and must be stopped. pic.twitter.com/FRzpxywwbj

Hey @DavidAFrench, @kmele, and @thomaschattwill, we filed the civil rights lawsuit. Now we just sit back for a few years and let public schools, which have the power of state coercion, tell children that their "whiteness" is the devil? Is that the principled position here?

"...JUST SIT BACK for a few years and let public schools, which have the power of state coercion, tell children that their *whiteness* is the devil?" If you did that, I might be ashamed for you. Better Question: Is the only/best alternative pursuing a statewide ban?

We should use all three branches of government—legislative, executive, and judicial—to stop state-sanctioned racism in public schools. The founders created our system in order to use it; limiting this campaign to the courts is a strategy destined to achieve limited results.

What's the probability of passing a statewide ban in your home state?

Low, but I accept and support that each state will have a different curriculum. Just because we can't pass it in WA doesn't mean we shouldn't pass it in TN. That's federalism, choice, and competition.

But it isn't the most sensible thing to do in your state? At least, it isn't the most efficacious + practical + efficient thing to do. So what then? And is *raising the temperature* in TN, TX, FL -- likely to make your tasker easier or harder back home?https://twitter.com/kmele/status/1413257026067599362?s=20 …

If I have the chance to protect millions of children against state-sanctioned racism in other states (which we have done), I fully accept the cost that it might make it slightly harder in my home state. That's an easy trade for me.

No 1A issue with k-12 “ban”. "It is enough to hold that the first amendment does not entitle primary and secondary teachers, when conducting the education of captive audiences, to cover topics, or advocate viewpoints, that depart from the curriculum adopted by the school system."
