I’m highly critical of CRT, but let’s not mince words—these new laws are speech codes. Censorship is a concession to an idea’s power, not a defense.
I join @jasonintrator, @kmele and @DavidAFrench to denounce these illiberal banshttps://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/05/opinion/anti-critical-race-theory-laws-are-un-american.html …

@thomaschattwill is brilliant but is off base here. Freedom of speech *is* important - all are welcome at the table, *except* any who want to blow up the table (as CRT does.) There's a diff btwn teaching ABOUT CRT and teaching FROM CRT.@realchrisrufo makes the key distinction. - Show replies

It seems like he isn't going to answer, because you've got a brilliant. What are these people actually doing of any benefit at this point apart from arguing against anything that tackles CRT in schools Lawsuits (only accessible to higher classes like themselves) are useless

The authors say they want enforcement of Title VI. That alone would make it illegal to apply CRT—as the architects of CRT all but admit. CRT says America’s social order is oppressive, and needs overhaul. If you think the premise foolish and the remedy dangerous you must fight CRT

The chances that happens under Biden? Laughably low.

Government involvement in the schools is the problem, and this issue should make clear why that is. There's a BIG difference between the guys with guns censoring ideas and anyone else--even "Big Tech" doing it

I don't think comparing CRT to Klan or Nazi ideology is helpful, a bit like apples and oranges. But if a kid whose parents were in the Klan were in my class, I'd have to address that by appealing to the light of reason in him. That's the only way.

And I think one can do that, but it has its risks. The moral and intellectual life is risky in that virtue can't be taught in the same way geometry can. There's a ton that's wrong with contemporary education. But banning ideas isn't the best solution.
