In the interview he was given examples of things his interviewer felt pride in as a Black man. Responding we're all individuals and no one should have pride in being Black or White (perhaps Ghanian or Scottish) would've led to; "White man tells Black man not to feel any pride"pic.twitter.com/SVaaNkiEQ1
Lamont Hill also conflated race with culture. He cited examples of black American culture as points of pride—which is totally legitimate—but that culture does not apply to black people living, for example, in the Sudan, which has a different culture.

One thing I hope to offer the discourse on ancestry vs culture—Black Americans are their own nation. So are White Americans. The Sudanese don't share their culture, nor do Nigerian immigrants. Irish and French people don't share White American culture, nor do French immigrants!
