I wish one of those very serious Classical Liberals™ could explain to me why a democratic governing body should not be able to legislate what is and isn't taught in a public education system.

Issue is with how poorly these bills are drafted. They’re over- and underinclusive.
Fine, we can fight it out in the courts and, if necessary, pass revisions. But the point stands: in a representative democracy, legislators get to decide which values to transmit through public institutions.

Or we have lots of public meetings where parents vent. I think that's more powerful that a bunch of lawyers fighting over the meaning of critical race theory.

I think you’ll find the courts to be an unfriendly venue for this fight. Better for legislators to become more informed and prepared to write specific laws that will solve the problem at hand.
