I wish one of those very serious Classical Liberals™ could explain to me why a democratic governing body should not be able to legislate what is and isn't taught in a public education system.

“You can just file a lawsuit instead” feels like a tell of bad faith and/or a profoundly warped degree of comfort with the dispersal of the legislative function to the judicial branch, from people who otherwise profess concern about the risk of executive overreach to democracy.
Yes, requiring a lawsuit puts the onus on parents; passing a law puts the onus on schools. The latter is much more democratic, fair, and just.

I’d love to see a class action lawsuit against State of NY for allowing indoctrination of CRT on our college campuses instead of the education parents thought they were paying for.
