This gaslighting is incredible. In Tennessee, it is now illegal to INCLUDE certain so-called divisive concepts in K-12 courses. Not "endorse". Not "teach as true". Not "promote" or "compel" or "require to affirm". Include. https://twitter.com/realchrisrufo/status/1401923794017521664 …

This, too, is a lie. The bill says "include or promote," then has a very specific language to make clear that teachers can teach about the history of racism and lead "impartial discussion" on controversial issues. They just can't indoctrinate and present CRT as dogma.pic.twitter.com/twbMV35U8B

But only about *historical* episodes. So suppose a teacher wants to have a neutral, objective discussion of some contemporary country or society. What then, Chris?

George Floyd is part of history; the 2020 riots are part of history; "systemic racism" is part of history. You just can't indoctrinate children into the cult of race essentialism, collective guilt, and racial superiority theory. Most people can easily see the distinction!

Btw, your original tweet says it's "gaslighting" to say that the bills don't prevent the teaching of history and racism. You're already conceding the point and retreating to "well what if it's not history." Just retract your original statement; it's wrong and you admit it.

If you had simply said "The bills do not prohibit neutral discussions of historical racism", I *might* have let you have this one. But you didn't. You went much, much further.

Huh? I said schools can and should teach a out the history of racism, but should not indoctrinate children into race essentialism, collective guilt, and racial superiority theory (three key concepts outlined in all of the bills). This is true.

Yeah, but most of the bills go much, much further than that. They ban certain ways (including neutral ways) of discussing contemporary racism or sexism. It's not about fighting race essentialism, collective guilt, etc. It's much more.

You argued that Texas and Tennessee stop discussion of racism and history. I've shown that you're factually wrong, using direct quotations from the legislation. I'm not sure what you're arguing anymore.
