Those are the tools and institutional levers in our republic. Why would we unilaterally concede them to our opponents?
We wouldn't have to be talking about conceding institutional levers if there was an understanding among all Americans that every community is allowed to decide these matters for themselves. "I won't poke my nose into Portland's business, if they won't poke theirs into mine."
