I probably need to re-read Marcuse. It's been a long time. In my recollection, he never explicitly endorsed violence as a strategy, and only vaguely as a defense.
Read "An Essay on Liberation." It's short and relevant. He believed that hope in the working class was doomed, but saw hope for the revolution in an alliance btwn left-wing intellectuals and inner city African-Americans. He explicitly endorses violence as justified.

This is why perverted Marxism seems fitting. Not only does it deviate grotesquely from a core Marxist frame, it also is perverted in its endless deconstructions.

Thinking of it in neatly sorted academic terms is a mistake. Activists are cooks in the ideological kitchen cooking up the stew of Critical Race Theory: a cup of postmodernism, a quart of Marxism, a dash of Critical Theory, a cup of intersetionality... *tastes* "Yummy CRT!"

So yes, it has marxism in it, and the "spirit" of Marxism is all over it, but the ideology is a stew of all the stuff that's hanging around in the academic activist left as it gets laundered through the "grevience studies" disciplines in academia.
