It's definitely right: "woke" is slang for "critical consciousness," which is a (neo-/post-)Marxist concept that was used in service of 20th-century Marxist-Leninist regimes, predominantly in Africa and Latin America.
But it's important to connect it back to un-hyphenated Marxism, which is still the animating "solution" coming out of critical theory and critical race theory.
