Growing up the child of immigrants, sometimes food insecure, the child of an alcoholic, this was me I paid $8 for the 10 real SATs and did 5 tests back to back. Standardized tests. Advanced math. I learned to code. A massive equalizer. Now the path is murky, and getting darkerhttps://twitter.com/seyitaylor/status/1393310464944267264 …

Yeah it’s actually pretty logical. Immigrants know that a standardized test is probably your best shot at getting somewhere your money/social status can’t take you — the rules are… well… standardized.

The people who want to destroy merit-based education are white progressive elites who fear that their own children will not be able to compete with Asian, Indian, and other groups who have better academic habits. They want to raise the drawbridge; the "equity" claim is a ruse.

It's that, and also angry people who want to destroy things being used by them.

Do you think it's academic habits, intelligence differences or both? I tend to think it's intelligence differences. I worry about globalization and cheap labor. My husband remotely managed an engineer team from India for a well known US Tractor company.

He had many frustrating moments dealing with time zone and cultural inefficiency. But the company kept increasing the cheaper workforce. It's the way of the future.

I’m more worried it will actually just hurt the truly extraordinary regardless of skin color, to the detriment of us all.

I think this is a pleasant side effect for them, keeps the funding flowing. But the main goal is to gain greater control over admissions so they can bring people in with the right opinions - advantaging a specific type of thought. Ppl with high SAT scores can be problematic.
