Like the woke, you don't have a clue about the issue at hand, but your ideology still manages to provide a simple solution to it.

You will agree, I hope, that there are things of cultural value, and even if great future scientific value, that don’t have a market value right now. However, I agree with the underlying point you are making, especially in as much as it applies to some of humanities research.

We live in a capitalist system. Which is exactly why all academic books are so ridiculously expensive.

The Weberian model of scholarship ensured that eventually rapidly increasing specialization in academia would reduce to knowledge of vanishingly minuscule subjects until sight of the whole was lost and academia devolves into an industry of increasingly parsimonious PhD’d pedants.

Plenty of waste in corporate and public sectors. And they are often feeding each other while many citizens and smaller organizations and businesses feed off each other. Perhaps distributed ledger technology will level the playing field further than what the internet has enabled.
