I have no bandwidth for anything else at all but I soooo want to write a paper about the academic publishing system being an example of unrestrained capitalism that socialists & those on the left who care about the equitable sharing of resources shouldn't support.
It seems more like rent-seeking from the state; the academic publishers rely on government-funded and government-subsidized universities as clients. Mainstream publishing is more like capitalism; academic publishing is more like bureaucratic socialism, no?
