I've said this before, but I think this as confusing "making an alliance with conservatives" with "becoming a conservative." I have no problem with strategic alliances. I don't care if people think I am conservative for working with conservatives on certain issues.
I don't think the framing is helpful here. I don't think there is a single way to combat the excesses of the woke Left. Besides, I couldn't change my values or beliefs if I wanted to. I didn't choose them in the first place. I was convinced of their truth.
Also, though it is unsaid here, if voting for Trump is what it would have taken to have sufficiently formed an alliance with conservatives, then this is a silly line to draw. I don't think the culture war is best fought through presidential executive orders.
Besides, while this paragraph suggests the woke Left is the one "dispatch[ing] centrist liberals," this paragraph itself is an example of conservatives doing exactly that. And it's getting more and more common. These purity tests are not the way to go.
I'm against dispatching anyone! I'm just describing the "no enemies to the left" logic of the neo-Marxists and why an alliance between conservatives and left-liberals is essential, but will require an acceptance of conservative culture and status.
Do you think this "alliance" should also require conservatives to meet these disillusioned liberal leftys part way? I see many calls for people on the Left to join the Right, but with few real incentives apart from battling wokeness.
I personally have no problem forming strategic alliances to battle woke ideology, but I am more centrist. I feel that many conservatives probably need to make their side more enticing for those who are to the Left of me.
I don't know exactly what this would look like, but I feel that a lot of the talk on the issue of alliances is frequently very vague and comes across as tribal saber-rattling. Twitter sucks for this kind of conversation btw. I'd bet we're actually not very far apart on this!
Agreed! I had lunch with Ben Winegard today and we are very aligned, much easier to gauge in person! Will have to get together with you next time you're in WA.
Absolutely. And if you're ever in Sac, let me know!
