Many people seem to forget (maybe they don't know) that the Chinese (and other Asians I presume as well) have been working to ace exams for ~1200+ years. For reference, I believe Europe was still mostly pillaging itself at that point. Maybe the idea of merit isn't Eurocentric

In South Africa we have normalised corruption and looting because it flew under the cover of reparations. Beware the political opportunists who would steal your social capital to fatten themselves while convincing you that mediocrity is justifiable. You lose every time.
