Ygelsias, you need an irony detector! Literally using terms from Paolo Freire, "speaking their language." You can read my stuff elsewhere; I don't write in academic language at all.
I think Matt is very clever, but it's hard to parse his beliefs from the sarcasm/cynicism. I would be interested in speaking with him on a podcast or long-form conversation. Maybe it's just a Twitter thing (I even find myself lapsing into it sometimes).
