I think the best term for people like Ibram Kendi is ethnomarxist. They view the world largely the way marxists did except that they have replaced classes with ethnic groups. Society is seen as a hierarchy of conflict and oppression that is determined by ethnicity.

Good term, "ethnomarxism." Has it been used before?

This is how I analyzed the SJWs in my book Live Not By Lies: as people who replaced Marx's class divisions with race and other "identity categories," but kept the militant Manichaenism.

One draw back of any coinage involving Marxism is that while there are obvious resemblances there isn’t an equally clear intellectual pedigree going back to Marx. This is a weakness often exploited by its apologists by arguing that such an association is just ad hominem.

What are some of the other strands that I should be reading? Been digging into Frankfurt School, Gramsci, Mao. Looking for more.

Go back to the populares of Rome like the Grachii, the Greek demagogues like Kleon, the medieval peasant revolt leaders like Jack Cade. Shakespeare’s two Roman plays Julius Caesar and Coriolanus stage how demagoguery of the plebs is a commonplace.
