Last week, the New York Times claimed that my work on critical race theory is a threat to "free speech." They have it backwards. The NYT only cares about "free speech" when they want to entrench their favored political machinations into public institutions at taxpayer expense. No one opposes CRT as "speech"; the objection is to CRT as general curricula, where it has no place.

The NYT is wrong to call Rufo's "work" a "threat" to free speech. Judging from Rufo's "work" here, it might be more accurate to call his "work" a poor use of free speech. Rufo could have reduced his explanatory rhetoric here to "CRT is bad and so is the NYT".
