One of the considerations that drastically changes the calculus of having children is that it is now increasingly becoming a moral imperative to home school them. Something needs to change. This is a luxury not everyone can afford.
There are some workarounds. Move to a low-cost area and parochial schools can cost only ~$6-8,000 per year. Not out of reach for a working family. But there are always tradeoffs.

There are high quality public doughnut schools in a ring around the lost liberal urban schools in a core University town like Ann Arbor. They focus on excellence in learning, music and athletics, and none of the woke/genderish nonsense overwhelming the inner schools.

Or better yet, create your own school with like-minded parents. Pulled my kids out of our local Waldorf when they started incorporating CRT and wanted the kids to wear masks, etc. Started a school with 50 other parents. It's been the best decision ever.
